Do I need to purchase tickets in advance?
Tickets must be purchased in advance to ensure your space on the tour. We accept all major credit cards. Book your tour here.
What is your late arrival policy?
Please plan accordingly and arrive on time. Tours begin promptly at the scheduled time. The first five (5) minutes is a meet and greet and brief introduction, which allows for any latecomers but after that, we must begin. Please note, all tours begin at LOCAL TIME (AST – Atlantic Standard Time) and Puerto Rico does not observe Daylight Savings.
Do you offer refunds if a cruise ship does not dock?
Our general cancellation policy is that we do not offer refunds on missed or cancelled tours BUT in the case your ship is not able to dock, we offer a 75% refund. The remainder will help cover part of the guide’s pay (who will be at the meeting location regardless of whether the ship docks or not), transportation and food – all of which are ordered and organized ahead of time.
Where do the tours begin and end?
Most of our tours begin in Old San Juan. The exact meeting point will be disclosed upon purchase of your ticket. The tours end within a few blocks radius of the starting point. Your guide will be happy to assist you with directions to your next destination.
What days do the tours run?
We run tours Mondays through Sundays. Private Tours can be scheduled any day. Please email us for more information regarding private tours.
If a tour is sold out, is there a waiting list?
We do not provide a waiting list but there is a chance that we will add an additional tour. Please email us and let us know the date you are interested in and the number of people in your group.
Are tours given in the rain?
Tours are given rain or shine. Since we are on a tropical Island, it might start raining at any moment. Luckily, food tours are not ruined by rain since most of the time is spent at restaurants. It is a good idea to bring an umbrella or purchase a Spoon umbrella during checkout. We do not however, run tours during tropical storms or hurricanes.
Are children allowed on the tours?
We are glad to host kids on all but one of our tours. The only exception is our Sip & Savor Cocktail Tour™. If you have further questions pertaining to tickets for children, please email us at email@example.com.
When is the best time to take the tour?
We highly recommend booking our tours at the beginning of your visit so you allow plenty of time to revisit the wonderful neighborhoods, restaurants and historical sights. Your guide can also provide you with lots of recommendations for things to do all over the Island.
How many people can I expect in my group?
Depending on the time of the year, your group will have anywhere between 2 and 14 people. We like to keep the groups small and personal so that you hear everything your guide says, feel engaged and comfortable. Don’t worry; there will be no cattle herding.
How should I dress for the tour?
Puerto Rico is Hot! Hot! Hot! For the most part, we visit casual establishments. Wear casual, comfortable, summer attire.
Should I eat before the tour?
Come hungry to our food tours! There is a lot of food and you will be full by the end – We promise! We do however, recommend eating something before or after our Sip & Savor Cocktail Tour™.
Do you accommodate special dietary needs?
We do our best to accommodate all food allergies dietary restrictions and intolerances. Please notify us at the time of booking of any dietary restrictions and we will do our best to accommodate your needs to the best of our tasting locations’ abilities. Are the tour guide gratuities included in the ticket price?
Gratuities are not included in your ticket price. If you have a scrumptious time, tips to your guide are welcome!
Are photos allowed on the tour?
Absolutely! Photos are encouraged on the tour. Feel free to snap pics of your guide, the food and dining establishments. While you’re at it, tag us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Our hashtag is: #spoonfoodtours
Which places do we visit?
We want it to be a surprise… it’s more fun that way! But we will say that all places feature are independently owned, feature local ingredients and are off the beaten path.
Is there alcohol on the tour?
There is one alcoholic beverage on the Old San Juan Walk & Taste Tour™ and two on the Sunset Walk & Taste Tour™ and the San Juan Drive Around & Walking Food Tour™. Lots of drinking on the Sip & Savor Cocktail Tour, of course 😉
How physically fit do I need to be to enjoy my tour?
The tours require a certain level of good physical health but are not very strenuous. The Old San Juan Walk & Taste Tour™, Sunset Walk & Taste Tour™ and Sip & Savor Cocktail Tour™ require the most physical stamina. You will be walking through historic Old San Juan, which has uneven cobblestones and several uphill streets. Nevertheless, we walk at a very casual pace and stop at the restaurants for tastings. If you are in good physical health, you will be fine.
The SJ Drive Around is part walking and part driving. There is less walking and more driving.
I am a native of Puerto Rico. Do you have anything to offer for me?
¡Claro que sí! If you are a local, you are sure to learn new things about Puerto Rico’s history and the food you love so much. We provide a fun experience that incorporates things we are sure will be new to you. Let us know you are from Puerto Rico when you book. What is Spoon’s cancellation policy?
Once purchased, tickets can not be refunded or rescheduled. Our tours often sell out and your space is being guaranteed on the tour. We do not offer partial credits or rescheduling for partial attendance, no shows or late arrivals. Thanks for understanding!
